Accessibility
Last updated: October 2026.
Kingston Web Design is built as plain, static HTML, and nothing needed to read or move around it depends on JavaScript. The little script the site does carry is optional to using it (the contact form needs it to send, so a plain email link sits beside it): the Cloudflare Turnstile bot check on the newsletter and contact forms, a copy-link button on guides, a counter for taps on phone and email links, and Cloudflare's cookie-free page-view counting (the privacy page has the details). That construction rules out most of what commonly breaks accessibility on the web — focus traps, ARIA misuse, content that changes without warning a screen reader.
The standard
This site targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Larger organizations and public bodies in Ontario are required under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA; this site is built to the newer, higher 2.2 AA standard as a matter of practice, not because the law requires it of a business this size.
What that means in practice here
- Semantic HTML structure: real headings in order, real lists, real paragraphs, not visual formatting standing in for structure.
- Colour contrast meeting AA minimums in both light and dark display modes.
- Full keyboard navigation — every link and control on this site is reachable and usable without a mouse, since there's nothing here that requires one.
- No images without accompanying text, and no information conveyed by colour alone.
